Drifting Away
By Arsh Lalani
Drifting through the eternal breeze,
escaping from the everlasting trees.
Embracing the unknown, with hearts open wide,
over mountains and seas, where dreams reside.
Fleeing from the looming shade,
the path uncertain, decisions made.
Silently falling to the barren ground,
new connections and others found.
There they lay in perpetual wait,
losing themselves at a growing rate.
Fading hues, once vivid shades,
a canvas, now dull and frayed.
Time passes on, the sky grows dark,
and soon disappear, leaving barely a mark.
Roots forgotten in distant lands,
once bound by tradition’s loving hands.
Deeper into the land they descend,
kinship fades, unable to mend.
Generations pass, the roots long severed,
a silent chasm, the cost unmeasured.
Plunging further, souls heavy with woe,
the stories untold, shrouded below.
The ones now buried have paid the price,
a heritage lost, a tragic sacrifice.
