I am Icarus.
The boy that flew too close to the sun-
And plummeted,
down-
down-
down-
to my demise.
Does this day in its dawn–
Leave presence in its wake?
Does my absence in its emptiness,
Leave space worth filling?
Does denoting the notion of flames searing my skin—
Leave time left for grievance?
How much sorrow can I take?
Was death a welcome gift?
Landing in her warm embrace,
as she cradled me in the warmth of a thousand suns-
I felt not pain-
rather only contentment.
I no longer had to fight—
free from the shackles of my humanity!
No longer was I haunted by the plague of escape;
suddenly—
my morality became nothing more than an afterthought.
I am Icarus.
The boy that flew to close to the sun-
And plummeted,
down-
down-
down-
to my rebirth.

What is your main source of inspiration?
My main source of inspiration is the media I consume; this includes music, cinema, and television.
What motivated you to write this piece, and what is its message?
I was motivated to write this piece after watching The Martian (believe it or not), it moved me to realize that lonely is not always alone, and that being alone doesn’t mean being lonely.
