Ode to Tennis
by Arianna Tkachenko

Horizon through a Diamond Lens, a photograph by Logan Ho Shue (grade 12)
Tennis
my favorite sport to play
You make me happy
A beautiful game
With a racket and a ball
Between a few lines
A net to divide
As the racket makes contact
The sound of the ball
beating every time
Tennis
Follow through he says
Bend your knees lower he adds
The bright yellow ball
ready to play.
The dark black racket
ready to smash
Hope my serves
find the court.
May my backhand
be a weapon
hope the net will always
be friendly
the feet be moving
hope the muscles
never get sore
as it may my forehand
also spin
Every day on the courts
trying hard,
trying to win.
The crowd sits silent
watching the ball
strike the court.
Cheers
As I win the match.
