In the Light of Hope, a painting by Sydney Herzbrun (grade 12)
Still She Rose
By Lindsay Brasner
In shadows deep, where sorrows hide,
She wears a mask, her tears denied,
With strength that seems to never wane.
She fights to keep her joy sustained.
Though darkness shrouds her heart and soul,
She rises up, she plays her role.
A smile conceals the pain within,
As battles deep, her heart must win.
With every tear, a silent cry,
She paints her face, no reason why.
For in her eyes, the world must see,
A girl who’s strong, against the sea.
She stands with grace, a warrior’s guise,
Defying storms, with tearful eyes.
In every trial, she finds her grace,
A phoenix rising, in this tough embrace.
Though wounded, scarred, she holds her space,
Her spirit soars, in the loneliest place.
For in her heart, a fire burns bright,
A girl who’s strong, in the darkest night.
So, when you see her, wear a smile,
Remember, it may hide a while.
A strength and courage, a hidden prize,
In a girl who’s fighting, still she’ll rise.
