Serene Sunset by the Beach
By Maya Moore
A peaceful evening by the beach
The waves crashing on the shore
Oh, what a wonderful night, sun peach
The naturally created and splendid decor
Made for us to enjoy in harmony
Amazing splendor and a peace
A peace that surpasses all, not regrettable
Oh, moment in heaven I wish not to cease
Sun burning on our skin, unforgettable
Let us not depart from this summer night
Alone we are walking side by side
Caught in romance, together we behold
Hand in hand, it’s you and I who will bide
But farewell now, the despair must enfold
This night has been wonderful, I bid you goodbye
Although we may depart now the bliss I remember
This moment clasped dearly in my heart
The last wisps of the sun’s rays like ember
Our love will be stayed even when we’re apart
Now the sun goes down on this instant we’ve had

Biography
My name is Maya Moore and I am a sophomore. When I am not in school, I like to spend my time by engrossing myself in a good book or going to the gym. When I am at school you can find me listening to classical music by Vivaldi while I study for an upcoming Anatomy test!
What artists and/or writers inspired or influenced your work?
Since my poem was an Ekphrastic, I got my inspiration from the artist of the painting, Edvard Munch. My ideas also stemmed from listening to the composer Vivaldi, specifically his piece “Op. 8, Summer” from the Four Seasons.
What is your ideal writing environment?
My ideal writing environment is outside on a warm summer’s day, listening to the birds chirp, and feeling the gentle breeze: all of which my artistry is grasped from… as the sun sets.
What message do you hope to convey through your piece?
I hope to convey a sense of serenity to my readers, crafting my piece to act as an intake of fresh air for whomever will come across my poetic, flowery words.
