Vengeance in the Dark

By Subhan Mian

In Gotham’s night, the shadows twist and creep,
A vengeance rises from the dark.
His cape, a whisper through the city’s sleep,
His presence, like a fire, ignites a spark.

Beneath the cave, a tortured person awaits,
A man who battles fear with strength and will.
Through all streets, in silence he gates,
For justice calls, everyone gets a chill.

The bat, a symbol cast upon the sky,
A promise made to those in dread.
No evil lurks where he will fly,
His fists of darkness cause bled.

Though shadows claim his heart in black embrace,
The Dark Knight stands, a beacon to the race.

Biography

My name is Subhan Mian and I’m a sophomore. When I’m not as school, I like to spend my time by playing basketball or soccer with my friends. When I’m at school I can be found in many places like debating my teacher in debate class or practicing my HOSA speech. After school you will always find me in my Arabic class.

What is your main source of inspiration?

Well, my main source of inspiration for specifically poetry is my background. Because I know how to read Arabic I have read and know the eloquence, excellence, and advancement Arabic has specifically in poetry. Whenever I read Arabic it always has a touch of poetry and, in fact, Arabic is considered to have the richest poetry and that’s my source of inspiration to right eloquently on anything you can imagine.

What motivated you to write this piece?

What motivated me to write this piece is I wanted to make an eloquent and deeper meaning of a hero, specifically Batman. Batman is a big inspiration to me because he’s a hero that’s been through pain and betrayal of his own people but chooses to stay undercover and protect his people and his city. He is one of my favorite super heroes, and my favorite thing about him is the secret behind who Batman is because it brings a thought that anybody could be under that mask and be good.
