World of Painters

The world is packed with professional painters, 

Who draw and sketch and color all the lines. 

They work through all the criticism and haters, 

They work to one day finish their designs. 

Some people try to keep on painting art, 

When all they hear is rudeness everywhere. 

That which is good is drowned out by the harsh. 

They quit and no one even seems to care. 

But others have a friend right at their side, 

Who lifts their spirits, keeps them standing up. 

They comfort them and wipe their teary eyes, 

And they help painters to pick up their brush. 

This sentiment then brings us no surprise: 

A true friend never leaves their partner’s side.

Biography

My name is Aldrei Chua and I am in 9th grade. To relax, I usually read books, play/listen to music, or watch Youtube. I am part of the AHS Patriot band in school.

Why did you choose to submit this category(s) of artwork/writing out of the many available category options?

I chose to write a sonnet because most sonnets focus on love or friendship and have a gentle, soothing tone, both of which I wanted to include in my submission.

What is your ideal writing environment?

My ideal writing environment is a quiet room with a little bit of natural sunlight coming through the window, which allows me to concentrate on my work.

What message do you hope to convey through your piece?

I hope the sonnet reminds readers of the importance of friendship and gives them the message that having good friends can help you through the tough times and overcome the criticisms of others.
